Composition

Dexpanthenol, C9H19NO4 is the corresponding alcohol of pantothenic acid.

Actions

Precursor in the biosynthesis of coenzyme A, acetyl-CoA is involved in the acetylation of protiens and peptides.

Pantenol is absorbed into hair and skin to enhance thickening, moisturisation and to stimulate skin healing.

Pantothenic acid increases levels of cellular GSH (Indication Melasma).

Anti-inflammatory wound healing and antiviral. Pantothenic acid acceletates wound healing in animals. THe mechanism is unclear. In human dermal fibroblasts in culture, It accelerated the wound healing process by increasing cell migration into a wounded area, as well as mean migration speed.

Contraindications, Precautions, Adverse reactions.

Allergy, Pregnancy, breast feeding. Oral and parenteral dexpanthenol are contraindicated in those with ileus due to mechanical obstruction and thgose with hemophillia. Contact dermatitis has been reported with topical use of dexpanthenol.
