Composition

DMAE: Dimethylethanolamine or Norcholine. DMAE is a precursor of acetylcholine (ACh) a neuro-mediator which plays an important role in dermis and epidermis.

Actions

Keratinocytes, fibroblasts, myofibroblasts, sweat cells and endothelial cells have membrane receptors and respond to Ach. Keratinocytes have the capacity to mov, essential in the second phase of the healing processes, thanks to cytoplasmic myosic and actine, whose interaction results in displacement. Their stimulation does not require a synaptic organisation, but undergoes a paracrine and autocrine stimulation that can activate specific membrane receptors. The tensile effect of DMAE may result in a cholinergic stimulation of membrane receptors of (myo)fibroblasts and may stimulate progressive contraction of its cytosol myofilaments. DMAE also has antiradical and anti-lipofucsine activities, it repairs the proteinic cross linking (colagen and elastin).

The consequence is a very interesting effectiveness in aspect and tension of the skin.

Indications

Anti ageing and tensing skin treatments, procaine potential substitute. Literature shows that it makes skin tenser even in topical application. DMAE is used in mixtures for tensing the face and body (arms, legs, tummy) skin.

Dosage

Many derivates have been used, such as DMAE bitartrate or acetamidobenzoate, but these forms are more adapted to oral doses than to direct application.

Toxicity

Some cases of allergic dematitis during long contacts with very big doses of DMAE have been described. Palpebral application in atopic subjects must be made under strict control. DMAE is not considered as carcinogen, cocarcinogen or immunodepressor, administration of an oral dose of 160mg/day has not shown any side effect.
