Composition
Taurine, (2 aminoethane sulphonic acid), is a semi essential sulphur containing beta amino acid, found in quantities in almost all tissues in mammals.
Actions
As humans age, hepatic Taurine production can fall or fail completely, producing a lot of ageing related diseases. Taurine supplementation has been linked with numerous positive effects:
- Skin: Taurine is involved in human keratinocyte volume homeostasis and hydration in the dermis, it shows a positive influence on glycogen glycation and shrinkage it helps for collagenogenesis increases hydroxyproline dermal concentration.
- Antioxidant: Naturally occurring antioxidant, Taurine protects against oxidative stress. Studies showed that it is a potent but not specific free radicals scavanger. It restores the GSH and catalase cellular content after oxidative stress.
- Anti-inflammatory: Taurine protects against inflammation.
- Vaso-protective: Taurine is vaso and cardioprotective. Taurine was reported to prevent the progression of atherosclerosis.
